Everyone around the world gathered with their loved ones to celebrate Valentine’s Day this past week. Valentine’s Day is considered the day of love. It’s often characterized by adorable presents and heartfelt cards. Nowadays, even if you’re single, we’ve coined the term “Galentine’s Day” as the day to celebrate you and your close girl friends. No matter where you are in the world, love is all around. Take a look at some special “cities of love” around the world.
North America: Alexandria, United States
The e-commerce giant, Amazon, analyzed the sales of romantic presents and generated a list of the top twenty most romantic cities in America. To our surprise, it wasn’t New York City or Los Angeles (neither of which made the cut) that made the top of the list, but Alexandria, Virginia! Located just outside of Washington D.C., Alexandria held the number one spot the previous year too. It is a beautiful, quaint city, filled with intimate coffee shops that are perfect for casual dates. If you want to see what other cities made the list, check it out here.
South America: Cartagena, Colombia
Cartagena came to the forefront of romance in the film, “Romancing the Stone”. Ever since then, it has been seen as one of the cities of love in such a passionate country. The Latin American city is overflowing with flowers no matter where you’re walking. Plus, salsa music and dancing is always nearby. There are colorful boutique hotels and charming restaurants that help make Cartagena an ideal romantic getaway.
Asia: Iloilo, Philippines
Iloilo is one of the Philippines’s highly-urbanized cities. It is the perfect combination of old and new. The older buildings in Iloilo’s downtown area are preserved, giving the area a majestic, rustic feel. Tourists that have visited this beautiful city have compared it to Venice, Italy. And when you think of a romantic scene, most people picture a sunset. Couples can make up a picnic and gaze at the sunset overlooking the Iloilo River! This breathtaking view is the perfect sight for one’s declaration of love.
Africa: Vamizi Island, Mozambique
For our lovers of all things tropical, Vamizi Island must be on your travel bucket list. Vamizi Island is a hidden paradise located off the Indian Ocean. It is not a big island, so you’ll have plenty of quality one-on-one time with your loved one. Spend some time relaxing on the beach or exploring the island. If any newlyweds are still trying to pick their honeymoon location, it would be worthwhile to consider this lesser-known gem.
Europe: Paris, France
No list of cities of love would be complete without the original owner of the term, Paris. Couples can pop a bottle of champagne underneath the Eiffel Tower and enjoy the city that everyone seems to fall in love in. There are tons of delectable pastry cafes, each with mouthwatering desserts to treat your loved one to. Then you can take a romantic stroll around the city and realize that it’s no wonder so many people propose while in Paris!
